MACANUDO FLINT KNOLL NO. 3
To complete the Macanudo Estate Reserve trifecta, we returned to our friends at Flint Knoll Winery in Napa Valley to create a cigar representative of our boundary-breaking partnership. 2021 was a remarkable year for Napa Valley wine. A lack of rain and lower temperatures resulted in an ultra-rare vintage that led to multiple awards for Flint Knoll’s 2021 Royal Appointment Cabernet Sauvignon.
To craft Estate Reserve Release No. 3, we aged tobacco in the same French Oak barrels that perfected the wine, lending the cigar a unique elegance and smooth smoking experience. Notes of cedar, vanilla and nuts are balanced by a sophisticated nod to the region by which the cigar was so heavily influenced.

YAGUA
J.C. Newman is unveiling 1,000 boxes of Yagua from its aging rooms. Each box contains 20 cigars, approximately 6×54 in size.
“Yagua presents a rolling challenge due to the under-fermented Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper we employ, the unique blending of filler tobaccos, and the departure from standard factory tools and techniques. To compensate for the wrapper’s under-fermentation, we age the cigars for a full year post-rolling.”
TASTING:
Rustic in both flavor and appearance, this dark toro is unevenly pressed, adopting an almost trapezoidal shape. A strong note of cereal and a subtle hint of sweet cinnamon leave the palate with a chalky sensation. The cigar burns adequately, though some inconsistency in the draw was observed.

EL SEPTIMO
The Michelangelo cigar is a 5″ x 50 Eagle dedicated to The Creation of Adam. It represents the second day of creation when God created the sky. An attractive perfecto with an oily cover leaf. Strong and spicy first puffs take on touches of minerals and leather, but flavors are overpowered by a persistent charry note of burnt coffee that lingers on the finish. The burn is even with a bit of resistance on the draw.

CASA FUENTE
The first third starts with an awesome milk chocolate and a wasabi-like pepper through the nose before transition to sweet nuts. There’s not much smoke, but it becomes a mixture of sweet cedar and cocoa with black pepper on the back — the Double Robusto more so than any other size really seems to capture the idea of the Opus X (filler) and a Cameroon wrapper going head to head. Before you know it (around six puffs in), the Double Robusto is putting out tons of rich, thick and heavy smoke with a great sweet cedar and barnyard aroma. The first two inches are rather distinct with tons of black and red pepper on the back of the throat. There’s honestly not too much up front, some of the peppers, cedar and a bit of aged tobacco with an underlying cocoa. Out of the gate the Double Robusto is always the strongest of Casa Fuentes for me, not just strength, but also body — both of which are full.

They feature a beautiful Ecuador Havana Rosado wrapper with a blend of aged binder and filler tobaccos from three continents and a pigtail cap. They are rolled in three sizes and packed in cabinets of 20 cigars:
A team of two rollers with decades of experience roll a total of 150 Angel Cuesta cigars per day. J.C. Newman released Angel Cuesta to 25 TAA members and expects to release these special cigars to additional premium cigar retailers across the United States twice a year.
