Emblazoned with an evil eye to represent the feeling on the secondary band, Romeo y Julieta Envy was crafted to give the emotion of longing a flavor. What that means? Maybe it’s like how those Sweethearts candies gave a flavor to love when we were in grade school. I won’t waste your time trying to figure it out, but I will tell you that Envy is pretty damned delicious. Additionally, with its wrapper aged longer than most of Romeo’s leaves, the blend evokes a mixture of sugar and spice from a full-bodied recipe crafted by Plasencia. Immerse yourself with notes of coffee, cashews, earth, and pepper. Just don’t blame me if my review’s got you green with Envy.

The bold multi country blend of the CAO Pilón Ańejo shined in this latest offering from CAO. From foot to nub, the flavors and aromas evolved beautifully as did the burn. I found the the cigar to be decently complex with a fine dimension throughout the transitions all delivered in a medium-plus strength. I enjoyed the floral notes both in flavor and aroma along with the semi-sweet dark chocolate notes that pleased the palate in the second third. This is a box worthy cigar and should be enjoyed but any enthusiast. The price point just makes it even more attractive.

LGC Serie R Black Maduro is everything you know and love about this classic brand in one oily, rich handmade. A Nicaraguan puro that booms with flavors of spice, earth, leather, and a slight hint of chocolate that makes this one perfect with a coffee or a tall, strong drink. In three big-ring sizes, and with more ligero long-fillers than you can shake a stick at, Serie R Black Maduro promises one helluva ride.

The cold draw of the cigar serves up notes of warm chocolate with a touch of dry marshmallows. The background is slightly nutty and the aroma off the foot of the cigar is almost nonexistent. 

The first third of the cigar sees notes of pepper through the nose and some citrus notes on the palate. There is a hint of fig lingering in the background as the cigar develops notes of dark chocolate. As the first third comes to a close a slightly floral note develops on the finish.

Moving into the second third of the cigar the floral notes is front and center til about the half way point when it fades away. The chocolate continues to offer notes of chocolate with a subtle espresso on the finish.

The last third of the 20th Anniversary continues to serve up chocolate notes with a touch of coffee and a bit of nuts, the moderate finish has me feeling if I just ate a snickers bar and that’s a good thing as the 20th Anniversary has fewer calories.

Rich and nutty in character, this dark toro also delivers plenty of dark chocolate and oaky vanilla notes that lead to a long, tasty finish redolent of cashews and peanuts.

The Fuente family has been making Arturo Fuente Don Carlos cigars since 1976, longer (by four years) than they have been making cigars in the Dominican Republic. The blend is the creation of Carlos Fuente Sr., patriarch of the family. In 2006, his son, Carlos Fuente Jr., made the Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario to celebrate the 30 years of Don Carlos cigars. He swapped out the Cameroon wrapper for the Dominican shade-grown leaf he uses on Fuente Fuente OpusX. He also boosted the cigar's power considerably. The result is a tremendously intense and complex blend, especially in the Double Robusto size. The cigars are wonderful, but especially hard to find due to their extremely limited production

Fine & Rare is an ever evolving project. It is a concept more than a cigar. Fine & Rare has been seen in many different formats since the project began. This medium strength cigar offers spicy and earthy notes with an overall delicious creaminess. Its Nicaraguan binder and filler are covered by a light-tan Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. Hand crafted in Nicaragua, the Aganorsa Leaf Validacion Connecticut undergoes a rigorous quality control process before the cigars are finally release. They call it “validacion,” which is Spanish for validation or validating.

While retaining many of the same characteristics as the Connecticut Broadleaf expression, Nica Rustica Adobe is the spicier version, using a Habano wrapper, Brazilian binder and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from Estelí and Jalapa. Unpolished and unrefined, Nica Rustica Adobe is a medium- to full-bodied cigar that offers load of spice with a bold and very long finish … the perfect companion for adventurous cigar buffs.

While it may have some history, don’t be fooled, this isn’t your grandfather’s stogie. This is the boldest cigar in our line. Made with full-bodied tobacco grown from some of the richest soils in Nicaragua, the El Baton has a spicy kick that creates a surprising experience.

The impact and flavor in this cigar can usually only be experienced for twice the price of the El Baton but keeping true to its motto, this cigar gives smokers “mucho flavor for little dinero,” something the true aficionado deserves.

TASTING NOTES:

The initial zesty tanginess of this good-looking robusto recedes to show a rich cappuccino quality along with a big nutty element and notes of apple, cinnamon and maple syrup. A tasty and interesting smoke.

Surprisingly, the cigar shows an impressively straight burn line, though the ash is somewhat flakey and sporadic. The cigar continues with the strength laid out previously, with flavors seemingly intensifying in their various categories. Stone fruit becomes a more specific ripe cherry, Swiss Miss evolves into red chile dark chocolate bar, and previous spices now show up more along the lines of chicory or black licorice. The smoke texture is dense and vaporous, riding out through the finale with toasted-yet-sweet flavors similar to Cracklin’ Oat Bran cereal.

This puro uses very unique and rare grade A tobaccos. The result is a deep milk chocolaty undertone with rich earthy complexity. This cigar is medium to full body and full flavor.
